Dfb Pokal tickets

The German tournament was first played in 1935, when it was known as Tschammer-Pokal and was won by FC Nürnberg. The tournament was put on hold during World War II, but returned in 1952 with a new name – DFB-Pokal.

The DFB-Pokal (DFB stands for Deutscher Fussball-Bund) includes all teams from the first and second divisions of the Bundesliga, the four best teams from the third division, and selected winners and second-place holders from some of the regional leagues. Every season, 64 hopeful teams compete for the grand prize.

Record Holders Bayern München

It should come as no surprise that giants Bayern München have won the tournament more times than anyone else. The club has won a massive 18 times from the 21 finals they have played. The second most successful team in the cup is Werder Bremen, who have won six times in ten finals.

About DFB-Pokal

Since 1985, the annual finals have been played at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Before then, the arena would only be announced shortly before the match. The German Football Association would normally consider where the two finalists were from and would try to find a geographically diplomatic place for the finals.

The tournament, which was originally known as the Tschammer-Pokal, was cancelled in 1944 due to World War II and resurrected in 1952 as the DFB-Pokal. Once it was relaunched, Rotweiss Essen were the first team to bring the cup home.

The tournament winners also earn themselves a spot in the following Europa League season. If the club has already qualified through the Bundesliga, the extra spot is awarded to another team.
